What is library 2.0?
Library 2.0 is a modernized form of library services which
is user centred. It is a model for library services that encourages user
participation in the creation of both the physical and the virtual services
they want, supported by consistently evaluating services. In simple language
library 2.0 is the ongoing response to Web 2.0, a participatory, networked,
interactive and collaborative community of web users. The term Web 2.0 was
introduced as a shorthand for a “second generation” of web applications that
involved increasing amount of social interaction and online collaboration.
“Library 2.0” is the shorthand for a vast array of initiatives in all types of
libraries to incorporate the tools for online collaboration in new ways to
deliver effective library services.
So, when the question arises “What makes a service Library 2.0 ?”
The answer is
“any service, physical or virtual, that successfully reaches users, is
evaluated frequently, and makes use of customer input is a Library 2.0 service.”
